Enhancing Fiscal Governance for an African Revenue Authority.

  • The Challenge: A national revenue service in an emerging African economy faced challenges in interpreting complex international tax treaties and countering sophisticated tax avoidance strategies, undermining the country's revenue base.

  • Our Approach in Action: Drawing on decades of experience at the IBFD, our expert designed and delivered intensive training programmes for the authority's most senior officials. The bespoke curriculum covered critical topics including double tax treaty law, the latest BEPS anti-avoidance rules, and the correct taxation of permanent establishments.

  • The Outcome: The programme significantly enhanced the technical capacity of the country's tax authority. Officials were better equipped to engage with multinational corporations on a level playing field, leading to more effective negotiations, improved tax compliance, and a strengthened ability to protect the domestic revenue base.
