Developing a National ESG Framework for the Financial Sector in South Asia.

  • The Challenge: A national banking sector in an emerging South Asian economy needed to align with international best practices for Environmental and Social Risk Management. Without a unified framework, the sector struggled to attract capital from international Development Finance Institutions (DFIs).

  • Our Approach in Action: Our expert was appointed to lead a €130k technical assistance facility. The process began with a comprehensive gap analysis, leading to the development of a tailored Environmental & Social Management System (ESMS) risk strategy. The core of the engagement was building lasting internal capacity through intensive training for loan officers, risk managers, and senior leadership.

  • The Outcome: The initiative resulted in the widespread adoption of enhanced ESG policies and risk management procedures across the sector. This demonstrably improved governance standards and better positioned the country's financial institutions to attract capital from international DFIs, unlocking new funding for sustainable economic growth.
